There are three types of VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting with respect to service and management – Self Managed, Semi-Managed, and Fully Managed.
In Self Managed or unmanaged VPS environment, Whole server administration, configuration and management of the virtual server are responsibility of the end user or client. Users need to have knowledge in administration of servers. The Complete responsibility of security of a Self Managed virtual server is on user’s or client . Self Managed is perfect for those who do not require any support from the hosting provider.
Semi- Managed VPS
Semi-managed VPS mainly includes re-installation of the OS and the control panel, adding additional IP addresses, configuring firewall rules, kernel upgrades, DNS management, assistance with common problems etc. It is best to install Control Panel as It will make server administration much easier for you. There are many control panels available on the Internet, but The Plesk and cPanel are the most popular VPS control panels available today.
